Gathering with Great Intention & Purpose

WHAT TO EXPECT

“There are some very specific things that we are trying to accomplish at our Sunday morning gatherings.”

1. Gather Together

The idea of giving up a Sunday morning to gather with people to worship God may seem unnecessary to some. But Christians have understood this to be an essential, primary, and commanded way that we are to worship God and grow in relationship with him and one another. We understand that part of what it means to call ourselves Christians is that we have a responsibility to gather together on the Lord's Day each week.

2. Sing Together

It is a good, right, and appropriate response to respond to the attributes of God in song. We sing to proclaim his excellencies, to recount his blessings, and to realign our earthly and eternal hope by placing them off of our circumstances and onto Christ. Perhaps at first singing aloud with other people may feel strange. But very quickly you begin to understand why Christians for two thousand years have joined their voices together and put their doctrinal beliefs to song. When we sing, God's people are comforted and God is praised!

3. Study Together

We understand the Bible to be the very words of God. Each week there is a time in our service where a Pastor will go up to the pulpit, read a passage from the Bible, and preach a sermon that reflects the heart of the text and is true to the words that God spoke. We preach from the bible, and the point of the sermons you hear will be the point of the text that was studied. Simply put, in our preaching we seekto unfold God's words to his people. This leads us to a conviction that the Word of God should be the central element of our services. We believe that his words bring life, conviction, and hope. Our role in responding to his Word is to bring our lives into conformity with his Word, and when we do we experience human flourishing at its best as he intended. Each Sunday, we open our Bibles and follow along, verse by verse, as a pastor expounds on a passage, showing us Christ from the text and the hope of the Gospel that is revealed in God's Word.

4. Pray Together

We talk to him because he has first talked to us through the Scriptures. Some might consider it strange to talk to God. But for the Christian, it is a very natural response to speak with a God who knows you and desires you to know him. We pray because God wants to hear from those who belong to him, and he wants us to trust him. We do this by praying. Prayer is personal communication with God. Much like a good father enjoys helping his children when they come to ask for assistance, or responding in comfort when they come to him upset, God loves to hear the prayers of his people. As children look to their fathers to provide for them, so God expects us to look to him in prayer. Additionally, prayer brings us closer together in relationship with God. Just like friendship and closeness happens by two people talking and getting to know one another, we pray and talk to God, and he speaks to us through his Word, the Bible. And when we do, our relationship with him deepens and is strengthened. On Sundays, you will see men and women praying for one another, leading the church in prayer, and the congregation reading corporate prayers together.

What can I expect?

How long is a Commonwealth CHURCH service?

In total, a Commonwealth Church service is about 70 minutes in length. Services begin with the Commonwealth Church band leading the church in music. After the music portion of service is complete, one of our pastors will come out to share an encouraging and hope-filled message about Jesus.

What about my kids?

We believe that kids should have a blast at church every single week - and at Commonwealth Kids, we make this a priority. The other thing we make a priority is your children’s safety. Because of that, we have a detailed check-in process for our Commonwealth Kids program the first time that you visit. You’ll want to leave yourself an extra ten minutes to get signed in for the Commonwealth Kids experience. Commonwealth Kids is for kids ages 3 to 9.
